The New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute's Strategic Community Water Management Program (SCWMP) serves communities, water users, and water managers. It offers watershed restoration and monitoring projects to mitigate flooding and improve aquifer recharge and watershed health. Its main goal is to deliver up-to-the-minute water information for better water management. This program is a new effort that builds on the technical understanding developed by the Community Hydrology Program.
Project Objectives include:
The New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute (NM WRRI), established in 1963, studies the interconnected issues surrounding water management in New Mexico's arid climate; NM WRRI works with local communities, landowners, and individuals to provide critical information when it comes to managing New Mexican's natural water resources. The institute also funds student and faculty research conducted to address water problems critical to New Mexico and the Southwest, in addition to also participating in joint efforts to solve water-related problems along the U.S./Mexico border.
